 Guardain Newspaper - website

Hundreds of rioters have revealed why they took part in the event that occurred during Summer 2011. The majority of people interviewed, said that they wanted to demonstrate their anger towards to police, as they feel angry at the fact that police label/stereotype certain areas in Britain.

What rioters say about the London riots (by rioters)
  • Opportunism - It went against the normal rules of society
  • The involvement of gang members was small
  • BBM was the commonly most used social communication for organising and sharing information
  • 59% of who were interviewed were unemployed
  • Some rioted because of tuition fees
Some felt annoyed that law abiding people were being stopped and searched continuously, and the police were just labelling them, that they then had to act out self-fulfilling the prophecies that were put on them.
